The House has operated continuously for over four hundred years, taking in children regardless of origin. It occupies a rambling compound in the lower Market Tiers — buildings added to, modified, and connected over centuries until the architecture itself seems uncertain about where one structure ends and another begins.
How Children Arrive
Some are left at the door. Others are brought by the Watch, found wandering with no memory of family or home. A few simply appear, with no one able to explain how they came to be there.
The House's policy has always been the same: no questions about before. The past is past. What matters is building something going forward.
The Alumni Network
Former residents of the Liminal House form quiet networks throughout Venturia. They recognize each other by small signs — a particular way of folding napkins, certain phrases from old House songs, the habit of checking exits when entering a room.
They help each other when they can. They keep each other's secrets. And they understand without ever discussing it that some of them remember lives before the House that may or may not have been real.
